These are the double page spread templates I have created using photo shop, I had first started creating rectangles and placing them in the position of where a specific item would be placed on the magazine. I had then placed a text box on top of the rectangles and added the words of what is going to be placed there. I then altered the size of the text to match how big the rectangles were and fit it accordingly.
FIRST TEMPLATE:
This is my first double page spread template, I have placed the title on the top, left this is the usual place where the title is positioned, making it basic yet sophisticated. The size is also reasonable as it is not too big, distracting away from the rest of the page.
The text of the page will be placed on the right side of the page, this evens out the text on the page by having the title and text opposite. As the text box is big, this allows enough space to place an interview or a short story about an artist.
Below the title, the image of an artist or band can be placed, as the space is quite big, a wide shot of a band can be put or a close up of the artist that the information is about. This shows that full attention is given to the artist.
At the bottom of the page I have left a section where other information can be placed, this is so that a couple of items are on the page and not just keeping it bland with a text box and image. This can consist of logos or an information that links to the artist shown but is something completely different to the rest of the information.
SECOND TEMPLATE:
This is my second template, I have placed the title on the right side and in the slight middle, this gives a different and interesting look. This will be placed on top of the background image that will be covering the whole of the double page spread.
The image would then be placed on the left side, having it a long shot as it is long therefore an artist full image would look best. This would allow the full outfit of the artist to be seen as well as any props next to the artist such as an instrument.
The contents would then be placed below the title, which does not have as much space, therefore this gives an idea how long the text can be, this can be of gossips, album launch or a topic view of the artist shown.
Another section above on the right side can have information that links to the main text such as if it were about an album launch, this section can be about where the songs can be downloaded or concerts that may have these songs.
THIRD TEMPLATE:
This is my third template, the title has been placed on the left, vertically this works with the third front cover and contents page template. This is a very abstract look, making it seem interesting and something new. This also gives more space to the rest of the page, allowing more information or images.
The text informaton has two sections but can either be two different information or the same but carrying on from the big box to the smaller one. This gives a range of information that the page an consist of.
There is space for two images, one of a wide shot and one of a long shot, as the boxes are different rectangles, one being horizontal and one vertical, giving an idea of what kind of images can be put. Also the vertical box can have an image of an artist whereas the horizontal box can have a band.
At the bottom I have kept a section where other information can be placed such as any websites or something that links to the artists being mentioned at the top or it could also be something completely different so that there is a change and it does not get boring.
FINAL DECISION:
At the end I have decided to go with the second template as the look is very different due to the title being placed in a different position to how titles usually are. This allows me to experiment with the background and having the title being placed at the top. Also due to the background covering both pages with everything else being on top, this gives a more professional look rather than having an image on one side and a coloured text box on the other. Also because the image box on the left side allows me to place a long shot which I think looks best for a double page spread and not several different images but one dramatic one of the artist being mentioned.
