PRELIM Font testing and colouring testing

These are the different fonts that I have looked at and may use within the magazine, I have looked at very different ones from bold to thin, round to sharp and from swirly to capital. These are a variety of fonts that can be used for different sections such as the bold ones can be used for titles whereas the swirly and thinner ones can be used for other small bits of information.

These are the same font used from the above text but I have just changed the colour of the font in order to give a variety of options to choose from. The thicker and "stronger" looking font have a darker colour whereas the thinner and swirly fonts use lighter and brighter colours. This shows how titles need to have a darker and bolder look in order to stand out whereas the rest of the information can have subtle colours.

PRELIM Questionnaire

This is my questionnaire that I have made using "Survey Monkey", I had first started off with a basic questionnaire but then changed it to make it more specific and interesting. The questions are formalised into the most important to the least, this makes it easier, to section each questionnaire by knowing which school information each person wants information on.

I have given multiple answer questions, this makes it easier for the audience with different suggestions given by the questionnaire, I have also given another section where the audience can put specifically what they would like, this makes it easier for them.

The questionnaire is very basic with only four questions but this is enough information to know how to do the magazine and what to include as it has important questions such as the specific information required within the magazine and what types of school etc.

These four questions include everything needed within a school magazine with also extra information such as school holidays, clubs and tutoring.

This gives an idea that the magazine does not have to be about a specific school but includes everything connected to all schools. This would also increase a wider audience attention due to not being minimised to one school information.

PRELIM Contents page research

This is a "BSA" magazine contents page, as you can see the title has been placed at the top, right. This text is the biggest font used as it needs to stand out due to it being the title. It is also the only font with colour as well as the logo that is placed at the bottom, right of the page.

The heading "contents", is placed below the title and is the next biggest text. The different section within the magazine with the page numbers is listed below the heading. This is laid out in a basic format of how contents' pages usually be but this time being placed on the right.

The images are placed on the left side of the page, with three images of the school, one being of the students, the middle one is the field of the school and the bottom one is of an assembly held within the school.

This gives an idea of how the school may run or what activities are held within the school. Smaller text is used below the images, saying what or when the images were taken.

At the bottom of the page, small text has been used for other information that may be needed, this is placed in columns.

The contents page as a whole is very basic due to less colours being used and the few images and simple font style. Yet it is very structured and well organised as information is easily spotted and clear for the audience to find what they are looking for.

This is a "Caterham School" contents page, the title of the magazine is placed at the top, right but using a very small font size. This is different to the usual format of the title being the biggest font, this is maybe because on the cover it already clearly shows the title therefore it is not necessary.

The word "contenst" is placed at the top, left with the year of the magazine as well "2012" is placed next to it. These two text are the biggest font used on the page, giving it importance as it is the heading.

Three images have been placed below the heading, two of the images are smaller that the other one and one is positioned above the other. The images are square shaped, therefore showing edit has been done to the images as the usual is a rectangle.

The contents of the magazine is then listed below the images, with another image placed in between the columns, this makes it look not as professional as images have already been placed above, so it was not necessary to have another between the text.

The different sections of the magazine, is shown by the use of numbers being placed before the text, these numbers are all different colours, making the page look very colourful due to it being a school magazine.

No other information has been placed on the page, may be due to the lack of space or because the information is within the rest of the magazine.

The contents page as a whole, is very colourful which is suitable as it is a school magazine, therefore making it have that "children" affect with the use of a couple of images and colourful numbers.

This is a "Prep School" magazine contents page, as you can see the title is placed at the top, left. The font  is similar size to the title "contents", but the word "contents" is bold as it is the main title on this specific page.

The edition of the magazine has placed beside the title with the year slightly smaller than the season due to the magazine maybe having different season magazines. The issue number has also been placed at the top, on the right.

The different sections of the magazine has been listed below the title with the number at the beginning to show which page has that specific information. The text is small with the colour black used, this gives a simple yet sophisticated look.

Images are used which are placed on the right side of the page, the four images are of same size and shape, this keeps it looking neat and also in an album format. Numbers in red and black boxes are placed on the images, this is to show which page the image has been take from in order to see the image bigger.

Other information that may also be important has been placed at the bottom of the page, the font size used is very small, this shows the importance of each text on the page by using different sizes.

The contents page as a whole is very basic but well organised with not much colour but keeping a theme of black, white and red. The only part which is eye-catching would be the images used which is also important for the audience as they get an idea of how the school is.

PRELIM Magazine cover research

This is a school magazine, called "Back to School", as you can see by the cover, three children are shown, this immediately gives an idea what it is about and which audience it is aimed at. The three children are positioned in a way showing friendship and having a good time.

The text is placed at the top in the centre, with the font a big and bold style to make it stand out. The use of the bright colours such as the yellow, pink and blue makes it colourful and eye catching, as it is about younger children therefore the colours are fun and loud even though it is aimed for adults who need information on general news on primary schools.

The messages along the side of the cover  is letting the audience know what information is provided inside, in order for them to get immediate information and know if that magazine holds information they may need. The side titles are smaller than the title but bold and bigger than the information provided below it.

All the text on the cover is same colours although the font is different, some are capital letters that are bold and some thin and curvy. On the left side of the cover there is a bright pink circle with bold text inside "WIN", and information under it that is slightly smaller. The use of bright colour and big text makes it eye catching, it is different information therefore it is placed differently.

All information placed on the cover is positioned along the side, at the top and at the bottom as the image is in the middle therefore this makes it stand out. Some text is overlapping onto the girl that is at the back as she is more in the background. This gives more attention to the boy at the front and the little boy beside him.

This is a school magazine cover called "Back to school", as you can see there is an image of a little girl placed in the middle, dressed up as a fairy, this grabs the audience attention as it is aimed at parents therefore having an image of a cute little girl makes the audience want to pick up the magazine and look through it. The outfit the girl is wearing, is of a fairy, she has a hairband with 2 stars, this overlaps with the title of the magazine, making her image have more importance.

The colours used on this cover is light subtle colours, pink and white making it very girly due to the image of a little girl. But then the text is red and yellow, which is much brighter than the background colour, making it stand out as it is information that the audience needs or are looking for. The text is placed along the sides and the top and bottom of the cover in order to have full attention on the girl placed in the middle. The font used is big and bold, but having thin font placed under the subtitles of each section.

Information such as prizes or having a chance to win something, is placed in a different position compared to the other text. it is placed within a circle, in order to have a different shape and colour so that it stands out as it is different information than the others. It is a bright yellow and pink circle, making it stand out and pop as the audience is able to win something.

The theme of this magazine is about christmas, and so the information placed is about xmas, therefore the little girl is dressed up as a fairy, showing how it is a festive season. The image and text match with the theme of christmas and so the audience would have an idea of what information the magazine may contain.

This is a school magazine called "Choosing a School", as you can see there is an image placed on  the centre of four children who are wearing uniform, this is showing school students. the background of the image is of trees, but is edited in a way to look "smudgy", in order for the students to stand out. t places, with some bold fonts as the subheadings and slightly thinner font for text under it.

The magazine has a colour theme of red, blue and white with a few sections black such as the uniform and border across the top, The three main colours used, represents many flags, the red meaning hardiness, the white meaning purity and innocence, and the blue meaning justice. These words represent a school and the students therefore, these colours creates a strong and sophisticated look.

The title of the magazine is placed at the top in the centre but the "Choosing a", is placed slightly to the right and as a smaller font size to the "School", which is placed in the centre with a much larger font size. As this is showing very clearly what the magazine is about, the barcode is placed on the bottom left of the cover which is placed at a sensible position.

The information provided on the cover, clearly links to the title of the magazine, as it is helping the audience with the concern of choosing a school for their child. This grows interest for the audience as it is guarantee to include information needed if at that situation.
