TASK 4: Audience Questionnaire

To create my questionnaire, I have used "Survey monkey", in total I have 7 questions that I feel would be necessary in order to help me create my magazine. The questions are broad but are very important to know how to create the magazine.

I first asked which magazine they purchase and gave a list of options such as; NME, Billboard or VIBE and also placed an "other" section, this enables me to know which magazine to get inspiration from and which one is most looked at.

The next question I asked was what age they would like the magazine to be for and put options of; Children, Teenager or Over 40s with again the "other" section, this gives me an idea of what I can put in the magazine, making it age appropriate for the audience.

I then asked about which genre music they would like the magazine to be about with option; R&B, Pop or Rock and with an "other" section, as this helps me to specifically choose a type of style for the magazine and also help with the colour theme and model's looks.

Then I asked about what sort of information they would like to see with options; Artist facts, Interviews/Reviews, Photoshoots or "other" , this would help me in making my contents page as I can list what the magazine includes, this would also help me with the double page spread as I can have it based on what they would like to see.

I then asked about the style of the magazine such as; text, images or both, this will help me to know how much text or images I should use, in order to make it fit for my audience and also helps with the layout and structure of the magazine.

Next question was about what features attracts them to a magazine with options; Advert, Freebies, Cover star or "other", helping me again to list my contents page or even making my contents page if they would like to see any adverts etc.

And finally I asked how much they are willing to pay for the magazine, allowing them to place a price and not from an option already given. This will help me get an idea of how detailed the magazine should be as higher the price means more information and better quality whereas low price meaning less information.

I had then printed out some questionnaires to hand out to the public, this allowed more feedback in order for me to know what the audience would like. This is because some may not have access to the internet and therefore will not be able to give their reply online. This enables me to receive as much information and also quicker as I can straightaway get the feedback once they are done filling it in. Whereas online they may not do it straightaway and it might take time to load and to then submit the survey.

Below are the results of the survey, however no replies had been given online therefore I had to print out the questionnaires and hand it out in order to receive some feedback immediately. For the first question; the highest chosen brand was VIBE. The second question; the highest chosen age range was Teenagers. The third question; the highest chosen genre was R&B. The fourth question; the highest chosen information was Interviews/Reviews. The fifth question; the highest chosen styles was Both. The sixth question; the highest chosen features was Cover Star and the seventh question did not have an option but I categorised pricings according to a suitable price range and the majority chose £3.00 - £3.50.

Receiving feedback from the audience will help greatly in order to create the magazine, this is because of now knowing what it is that the audience are looking for and what they are interested in.

TASK 3: Music Magazine Analysis Double Page Spreads

This is an "NME" music magazine double page spread, the name of the magazine or the logo has not been placed, making it difficult to know which magazine it is. But this also keeps full attention towards the information and images on this page.

As the background is pink, having the logo or the magazine name will distract the very "girly" background therefore it has not been placed on the double page spread.

There has been only one image used of the artist, therefore it is clear that the information put would be about that specific artist only.

The image is very dramatic as it contrasts highly against the soft pastel background, this creates the artist's image to stand out.

Artist's outfit is very bold as the colours are very striking and vibrant, the both colours are opposite of the spectrum; black and white, this creates an even more intense affect. The pattern as well makes it very eye catching as it is a zebra print.

The hairstyle of the artist is also very eye catching due to the intensity of the black as it is pitch black, with the full thick fringe and updo makes a very bold look. This also creates a 60s look as big updo hairstyles and dramatic makeup such as the baby pink lipstick with thick lashes and winged liner was the trend during that time.

Props used are very minimal as it is just a ring and a necklace yet a very abstract look due to the size and uniqueness of the design and creation of the jewellery.

The ring has the word "icon", other meanings for this word are idol, figure or model. This shows a glamorous look and brings out the celebrity's personality as it is a word used for "superstars". Placing her hand next to her face, purposely showing the ring makes the look quite vain-like.

The necklace is very quirky and peculiar as it is not very clear if it is a necklace or a part of the dress's design or some other prop that the artist is holding in her hand. The colours as well of the necklace is very bright and colourful making it stand out from the background which is of the black and white outfit.

The text on the page is spreaded across both the pages, having the biggest font of the artist's name "Nicki Minaj", placed next to her but overlapped a bit by her arm. This shows how she is well known and that she needs full attention, therefore having nothing on top of her image.

Above the artist's name a starting off line "The gospel  according to", shows that this section is going to be about this artist's view about a specific thing. This shows how it may be an interview or just a general "talk" of the artist.

The colours of the text are black but the artist's name is in pink, slightly darker shade to the background yet stands out as it is different to the rest of the text. And a few other bits such as the first letter of the main text information is in the same pink and another section, which they wanted the audience's attention to hit.

Some of the text are bold, this shows the different sections such as questions or subheadings, making it easier for the audience to know what this part of the text is going to be about.

The double page spread as a whole is very girly due to the mass of pink used, but works very well with the look as it is about a female and that too a very known artist. But it does not have too much pink, enough to put the audience off due to the outfit and artist's look and pose makes a huge change to the page.

This is a "Kerrang" music magazine double page spread, the name of the magazine has not been placed on the page, but as it looks like a rock theme, making it likely to belong to this brand as this name is very well known as a rock genre magazine.

Only one image has been used and takes the entire one side of the two pages, making the artist receive full attention, as it has a "poster" look due to the size and position of the artist's photo.

The clothing of the artist is simple as it is a t-shirt, with no props used other than the artist having earrings, this works very well as most male rock artists tend to have ear piercings or any facial piercings.

The artist also has a large amount of tattoos, covering both his arms, this again is a major feature of the rock look, therefore they have tried to show as much of this as they could by he artist wearing a short sleeved t-shirt.

Although the outfit of the artist is very basic and that too of plain colours; black and white, the two colours are very strong colours that work very well for any look. Also the broad range of tattoos gives a very dramatic and edgy look.

The pose of the artist is again quite simple due to him just standing there with his hands looking like they are in his pockets because of the slight bend and his arms gradually going inner towards the downside. Therefore this creates a sluggish and laid back effect. This again works really well with the whole look due to artists within this genre have a "chilled" personality.

Above the artist on the left side, there is a black text box which contrasts against the light background, with the word "News" in a red font and is also the biggest font within that box. This makes it seem old and eye- catching due to the bright sudden colour on the bland looking page.

The heading of the page is placed on the right side but overlaps slightly to the left due to the size and position of the heading. As it is placed slightly diagonally, creating an intense and fierce look.

The font is white and dark pink, making it stand out against the black outline/border around the text. The word that is the most audience grabbing is "Absolutely!", this is due to the size and thickness of white against the black.

The heading says "Do I ever have a casual Friday? Absolutely!", this blends in very well with the whole look as the artist is posing in a way that is very casual making it match with what the information is about. And then creates excitement due to the "Absolutely!" being placed big with the explanation mark.

Using the two different coloured fonts shows the importance or what they want the audiences eyes to be caught on. And below this heading there is a small subheading that mentions about the artist and what he will be doing.

This further grows the audience attention as it excites them to carry on reading the rest of the article. The rest of the font is in black with the questions having a white outer box, this is put to show clearly to the audience hat that specific section is about.

The page as a whole has a very simple theme, due to the colour theme of grey, black and white but by having that little bit of red and some pink, creates a more interesting effect. But as it is a rock genre, they tend to use minimal colours but portray it dramatically.

This is a "VIBE" music magazine double page spread, the name of the magazine has not been put but at the top, left corner the word "volume" has been put but positioned in a way that is quite disordered due to the letters being placed abstractly. This is a key feature that most "VIBE" magazines do, especially on the contents page, making it clear to the audience that they carry this on.

The word "Now" next to it is in a bright blue, making it stand out and matches another section of the text that is at the bottom, and is the heading of the page. This shows how these words in a different colour, is what they wanted the audience's eyes to get drawn to.

The text is placed structurally as it is in columns carrying on to the next, but is all the same size and colour, making it look sophisticated. The colour used is grey, making it very close to the colour of the background which is a lighter grey.

This creates an intense look of the images used and the blue font colour used as well due to the blend of the text and background.

Another section of text has been placed at the bottom, beside the artist this is of a quote by the artist shown, therefore placed next to her and also in a different colour and size font to the rest of the text on the page.

The font is bold and stands out due to it being black, whereas the rest of the text looks subtle as it is much smaller because there is so much and is also thin. As there is so much information with no sections highlighted or something different about it, it is likely to lose the audience's attention as it is very long.

There is also some other text as well placed near the artist at the bottom, this is some other information which is in smaller font too but is likely to have more of the attention than the other information, due to the darker colour and also being placed separately.

The images used are not just one but several, but still featuring the same artist as the whole information is about the same person, having a range of images of the same person shows the personality of the artist as quite glamorous and slightly egoistic as it shows how "its all about me" kind of feel.

Other images used are placed in a line, as a stop motion look because the images are structured in an order of positions that alter during each pose. This shows a very fame theme as it shows the various shots that continuously be taken when a celebrity is seen for example a paparazzi or a photo shoot.

The background images are black and white, making the biggest one in the slight center in full colour, this makes it stand out and ives full attention to that specific picture also as she is looking directly towards the audience, creates a further connection.

The outfit is very fashionable and stylish as it is of a mini puffy-like dress and the colour is very bright as it is a red, making  it look attractive and intriguing. This is what many female celebrities want, to receive that fascination and captivation.

The hairstyle of the artist is also very stardom looking because of the curls and also the necklace is very fancy and is not an everyday outfit but very dressy. The heels as well is not an everyday pair of shoes but very feminine and brings out the fame look even more.

Background images are not in colour but this still does not take the attention away from them because of the outfit being very striking, the colour is not necessary.

The poses of the artist works very well with the whole look as it brings out the celebrity's personality that she seems fun and quite interesting. The use of movement in all the images creates an even more effect, rather than having her posing the same or just a simple position but the variety of ways of standing; movements of the arms, legs, head and expressions etc, creates excitement.

This is a "XXL" music magazine double page spread, the name of the magazine has been placed at the bottom of the page on the left side but of a very small font size. This shows that it still lets the audience know what the magazine is but still wants the main focus on what the page information is based on.

The layout of the pages are well organised by having a different background for the text information section and the image of the artist, with the background of the location being used together on the other page.

Heading of the page is placed at the top in black "The Game", this is evident as it is in a different colour to the other information placed below it. But the font is smaller than the subheading of the article, as it quickly makes the audience read onto what the information is about.

The words "It's A" are put as the biggest font as the two words are attention grabbing and by having them in a bigger font, grows even more notice. The colour is also different, matching the border placed beside the text and also the ground of the location of where the artist is. This creates a colour theme and having it placed evenly out and not just on one side.

The article is placed in columns and is all the same colour, size and font making it very neat and sophisticated. But could also make the audience lose interest if there is too much information looking the same format.

However the text placed below the information is of a quote of the artist being featured, the font used is very bold and in capitals making it stand out but also the colour being black, makes it emphasise even more.

Therefore, this part of the text is likely to be read first before the rest of the article, as it is bigger and more eye catching. But it is purposely put bigger and differently as it is another separate section and maybe more interesting as it is a statement by the artist.

The background of the text is white, making the writing stand out as white and black contrast greatly, whereas the background image of the artist will not make the black font stand out.

This also matches with the image used as it has black and white background and the artist's clothing is also black and white, making a colour theme. The clothing of the artist does not really stand out as the background is dark as well as the clothes therefore it works well with the genre.

The genre is R&B, therefore the artist's personality is shown by the clothing they where and the props used as they need to have a dark, serious look and so the outfit worn looks very casual but works well with the whole dramatic look.

The accessories that most male R&B artists wear are chains and caps, which is what the artist is wearing, this brings out even more of the casual theme but also shows the idea of money as artists within this genre tend to base their music on this.

Also their clothing usually is baggy, making it a laid-back feel and shows a "lazy" look but also quite trendy. The artists tattoos are also on full show, this means that he is proud of them and would like people to see it.

This also increases the "grungy" and "ghetto" look due to the dark theme, tattoos and accessories worn. Also the pose of the artist makes it even more intense as he seems like a "care-free" person due to sitting on the table of the bench, making him superior.

TASK 3: Music Magazine Analysis Contents Pages

This is a "Spin" music magazine contents page, the title is clearly shown as it is placed on the top, left and is also the biggest font used. Although it is a contents page, there is no heading that shows it is but the layout of the page, clearly shows that it is a contents page. The contents page as a whole is basic but a lot of editing has been put to the page.

Only one image has been used, but is also the background of the page, this gives greatest attention to the image as it is the biggest part of the page, although much colour has not been used, it is still very eye catching. This is due to the artist's image, as she is holding the guitar, but posing in a way that she will "hit" you with it as she is swinging the instrument back.

Also her expression, and hand position gets an immediate attention, as it is the next page and has a sudden change in posture. The artist's make up is simple yet evident that she has got make up on. This is because of the slightly smokey eyes but grey/blue pupils, giving a dramatic look.

The clothing of the artist is simple, a black and beige stripey top, with the blonde hair let down, over the shoulders gives an effortless look and casual look. The colours on the outfit also matches the text and background of the page. This gives greater attention towards the guitar due to it being a different colour.

The logo of the magazine is also presented on the page, this is placed on the top, left side, where usually a title is placed. This is also standing out due to the different colour, of it being a red. The logo is placed beneath the artist's image, creating further importance to the female.

The information is then placed along side the artist on the left, clearly having a title "features", this shows what the magazine includes. It then has the different page numbers with the topic of the information next to it. With an outline of what it is about, under the subheadings.

On the top, right of the page, there is another text, which is a quote of the artist's, this gives a clear indication as it is away from the rest of the text on the page and is also of a different font used. It is a thinner and more rounder style, making it look feminine due to the artist being a female.

At the bottom, left there is also another text box, which is if a different colour background to the rest, it is a dusty blue, which matches the number of the pages. This text is about any other information that maybe important for the audience, therefore placed separate and on the contents page.

The contents page is simple but quite a lot of editing has been done as the image is very high quality, and the flawless look of the female is evident that a lot of work is put into it.

However I think the text on the page could be altered, the font works well with the simple theme but the size should have been slightly bigger as it is not very clear, and more colours should have been used. As only the artist image is the only part of the page, the audience would be looking at.

This is a "Q" music magazine contents page, the logo of the magazine is placed on the top, left keeping it out of the main focus of the page but still clearly represents the brand. The title is then placed next to it in a bold font making it look basic as well as attention grabbing.

A black border is placed below the title, logo and date of the issue at the top, this makes those specific sections on it stand out even more as the text is white with the opposite colour of black emphasising it.

The content of the magazine is placed below the tile, on the left in a listed format. This gives a clear view with the numbers being a different colour and then the subheadings bold, with an outline below it. The subheading "Features", also has a border like the title. But this time red in order to show difference.

Another information section is then placed below the page reference, in order to keep the audience attracted to the magazine. The heading is gold/olive colour keeping it different to the rest of the page, yet making it look sophisticated because of the font style used.

Below that there is another section with a heading "Every Month", which also has the border, matching the "Features", this keeps the theme continuing and professional.

Along the left side of the age, has the main text information, and then a big image is then placed on the right, this gives a well organised format. The image is of a band, who may be featured within the magazine.

The group is all males, keeping their outfits similar, which is a very casual look due to the black jeans and either black, grey or white t-shirts. This matches the rest of the page as it has a colour theme of black, white, grey and red.

The background of the image is simple as well, due to it being of a landscape of a field, with the neutral colours in the background gives a very natural photo, with not very "fame" looking pose or studio etc.

A text box is placed below them on the corner, in a white box, this highlights the information within it. Which also indicates the page number that relates to the band, where information about the group can be found.

At the bottom of the page, has a separate section which shows a quick "review", of the next issue, this keeps the audience who enjoys their magazine, know what the other magazines contains as well.

This has another image, featuring another artist, in order for the audience to be interested as it maybe someone the audience is interested in. And next to it, it also has the contents of what is included within the magazine.

As a whole, the magazine is well structured and works very well in order to keep audience attention due to other information.

This is a "Billboard" music magazine contents page, this is evident because of the logo being placed on the top left side of the page. The logo is very small but still is clear enough to tell which magazine it is.

The title is placed on the middle but slightly to the right, due to another column being placed on the left side of the page, this is showing which songs or albums is at the top of the charts, with it being categorised from top to bottom, indicating their ratings.

The font of the title, is stencil, creating a dramatic and bold look, three images is then placed below this, with a number next to it, indicating where these artists information can be found within the magazine.

This keeps the audience's attention as it is showing different artists information can also be found within the magazine.

Below the images, there is the contents section, which also has information placed below the headings, this is for the audience to have an idea of what it is about and if they would find it interesting or not. Rather than having just the headings, it is not very clear to the audience of what it is about.

Next to the text, there is an image of an artist of a female, the image taken is of a full shot of the person, this shows the importance of the artist. Her pose and expressions seems more appealing to the audience as she is not just stood up but actually is posing in a position showing interest to the audience.

Her clothing is simple, with the black and beige clothing makes it stand out on the white background making a simple outfit look dramatic. Her heels are very "pointy" and high, showing the feminine side and with her hair let down and slight blow maybe using a fan, creates a more effective image.

A number is also placed by her shoe showing where her information can be found within the magazine. below this section of the page there is a blue and black line, indicating the separation between the two sections.

Other information is placed underneath, either quick stories of an artist/band or any other latest news that they felt as valid for the audience to know before even reading the magazine. This further grows audience attention and interest due to the highlighted lime green and blues used to show key words.

Along the side of the page, where it has the ratings of different songs, it has a different colour background, this shows that it is a separate section of the page. It has a grey colour, with a variety of different colours placed in the middle, highlighting the numbers.

This gives a very "pop" look due to the mass colours used on the page, but then making it slightly subtle with the greys and white font used.

The page has a lot going on with a lot of information, but keeping it well organised with the different sections put, highlighting the main areas of where the audience would best be interested in.

This is a "XXL" music magazine contents page, this is clear due to the logo being placed at he bottom, right of the page but due to the red makes it stand out, but not enough to take the attention away from the rest of the page.

The title of the page "doin' lines", is a very large and bold font used, but because of the rounded edges and the letters being lower case, makes the title not look too serious but has a slang word as doing is put as "doin'.

Below the title there is a thick black border going across horizontally across the page. Within this border there is text "B.O.B fills in all the blanks", with two arrows pointing outwards from the text. The colour of these arrows matches the image placed below.

This shows how that specific text above, links to the image and artist shown as the colour is used repeatedly, creating a more professional look.

The contents is then listed along the right side of the page, in a dark colour as the background is white, making it stand out. The numbers of the pages are bold in order to easily see what page that specific information is.

The image is of the artist whose name has already been mentioned, making it clear to the audience who do not know that artist, know what his name is.

The position of the artist is attention grabbing due to him looking directly towards you and knelled down, making a more direct connection. Although his expression is quite serious as he is not smiling, this still works very well with the whole look as it is a hip-hop/r&b genre making them dramatic.

His clothing is very bright as he is wearing an orange jacket with blue trousers, these are the most brightest features on the page, therefore making it stand out and as it contrasts with the rest of the colours used such as the white and black.

The prop used is his shades, which he is not wearing but holding in his hands. This matches his jacket as it is also orange. This gives a colour theme of the black, white and then the orange. Any colours with the white and black being the background and then having a brighter colour makes it evident that a colour theme is going on.

The reason why his shades are in his hands and he is not wearing them, is because he is making eye contact with the audience, therefore by not having them on, makes it seem like he has literally taken it off in order to look at you, creating a very dramatic effect.

At the bottom of the page, there is the date of the issue which is a bigger font size to the contents text of the page. This immediately lets the audience know when or how long this magazine has been. And then next to it on the left there is a much smaller font, maybe saying about some other information or website.

The use of the different sizes for each text section, creates an understanding of which information is more important and needs to be given to the audience whereas the smaller ones are other extra information.

Above that there is a black border, which seems like it is with the image of the artist as it looks like he is literally standing on top of the border. This border matches the one above, below the title, this creates an affect of the section in between the two lines are the key feature of the page.

TASK 3: Music Magazine Analysis Front Covers

This is a "Billboard" music magazine cover, and the genre would be of Pop, this is clearly shown by the use of colours such as the bright colours and the celebrity's image used.

The title has been placed at the top, center of the cover, this clearly shows what the magazine is called. The title is the biggest font therefore making it eye catching, also because it is a black, bold font with the light background makes it stand out even more.

The next biggest text is placed at the bottom to a slight right, with the celebrity's name slightly bigger to the other text above it. "Resurrection", is a different colour to the rest, making this word seem important.

Other text on the cover is placed along the sides, with two text information on the left and one on the right. The heading for each section is of a different colour to the text under it, also a slightly bigger font and bolder.

The image on the magazine is a close up of the person, and positioned on the center of the cover, making the celebrity's face in center of attention  therefore focusing on the makeup and hair of the person.

The image is placed over the title, but the other text is placed on top, this shows which section has greater importance. But still the image has a greater focus due it being the biggest and on center.

The colour of text used are black, blue and dark pink, with hints of lime such as the outline, the title of the "o", being filled with lime and other few bits.

With the background as white and the image of the celebrity also wearing white clothing, this makes the text on the cover stand out. This also gives a fresh look and a modern look as the audience is aimed for teenagers and young adults due to the genre being pop music.

The magazine as a whole is simple due to not much images/background being used and the variety of shapes and basic information being put. Therefore, the image of the celebrity has been focused more on by editing the image to a very high standard.

The bar code has been placed at the bottom, left keeping it horizontal, and the size is small due to not wanting to have attention on although it does not stand out because it matches with the text on the cover.

This is a "Classical" music magazine cover, as well as the genre is also Classical; this is very clearly shown by the title of the magazine that is placed at the top, center of the cover. The title also is the biggest font therefore making it stand out and with the use of a bold font.

Other text containing information is placed under the title on the left, the font used here is very small, but with the heading slightly bolder than the information placed under it. This text is kept at a side in order to show greater importance to the picture being used.

The next biggest text is placed at the bottom, left, the text is the name of the celebrity "Nicola Benedetti", that is presented on the cover. Below the name of the celebrity a smaller and thinner text has been used "standing up for music".

The position of the celebrity on the cover is shown as if she is walking through with her arms placed either sides of her. This matches the way the text placed under her name says "standing.." The celebrity is wearing simple clothing of black and white, making it look sophisticated due to it being a "classical" magazine.

The celebrity has her hair curled and placed on her shoulders but half clipped, this gives a very elegant look. The simple makeup but with "dangly" earrings, makes the look slightly more dressed up. Her look as a whole is very "classy" and very "lady-like", as classical female celebrities tend to be poised and very feminine.

The whole magazine cover has a theme colour of neutral colours, using; black, white, creams and browns. This gives a warm look as well as an elder audience based cover. The celebrity is also matching the rest of the cover making it look well organised.

The bar code as been placed at the bottom, right, having it vertical and keeping it not as important to the rest of the cover therefore is slightly smaller.

As mentioned before, the audience for this magazine would be aimed at adults due to it being a "classical" magazine which children are not likely to be interested in.

This is a "VIBE" music magazine cover, the use of the colours on the magazine, works very well with the theme of R&B, the use of black, white and red gives a sophisticated yet an edgy look. The background is white but the text is black and red making it stand out and the image of the celebrity is also wearing black clothing.

The title is red, making it bright and stand out also having the effect of it fading gives a more dramatic look, having all the text in capital makes it look bold and strong which works well with the theme.

Having the headings with the black, bold font makes it stand out even though it does not have a variety of colours and is very basic, the three colours work very well together that suits a lot with the style of the music.

With the rest of the text placed beneath the heading is of a slight smaller sized font, but still in capital which still gives that bold theme throughout. The text information being placed either sides of the image  in a column, giving importance of the image even though some text are over lapping the image, it still is a very dramatic image.

As you can see the image of the celebrity is also with an edgy, rock look with the chains, rings and sunglasses gives a "ghetto" look. Also because the theme is R&B, the hand gesture works really well as it is the typical pose that most artists use.

Also the information that is put on the cover of the magazine such as; "sex, drugs and R&B", this gives an automatic idea of who their target audience are as it may not be suitable for younger children but for teenagers and upwards.

The bar code is placed on the bottom, left and placed horizontal, it does not distract the attention that is given to the image used on the cover because it is placed at the side and also is quite small and matches the colour theme used.

The magazine as a whole, is very sophisticated and basic but then has that edgy look due to the artist's pose, clothing and accessories worn. High level of editing skills did not have to be used due to the cover being very simple as the background is plain white and with text being placed.

This is a "Kerrang!" music magazine cover, the genre of Rock is clearly shown by the images used also the colours that have been used. The title has been placed at the top, centre and is the biggest font in order to stand out. Also the use of black creates a bolder look which works well with the theme.

The image is placed slightly to the right, this is because other images have also been placed on the cover, to show either what information is inside the magazine or other information of different artists etc. These images are small but vary and are placed within rectangles, giving an outline to define each image.

The main, background image used, has the artists in black clothing, which is the main colour most rock artists wear. As the image contains a couple of people, this shows that they are a band, and maybe having the leaders of the group placed forward with microphones.

The next biggest text is of the band name "The Blackout", the clothing therefore matches with their band name as well due to why they also are wearing black. With other information of the band placed beneath the heading.

Text has been placed in variety positions and places, including some overlapping the image, this shows the importance of each information. Also because of the black clothing, the text placed on top is of a bright colour to stand out.

The colour theme on the cover is black, white, red, yellow and blue. The dull colour is used for the base, such as images, title and other few texts. And the red, yellow and blue are the bright colours therefore are either the text or box colours under the information to highlight and bring out.

Information placed at the bottom of the cover, is about other artists information that can also be found within the magazine. This grabs the audience attention further due to showing that the magazine is not just about "The Blackout", as the audience maybe interested in another band.

The bar code has been placed at the bottom right, placing it vertically, this keeps the bar code out of the way to ensure it does not take the attention but to focus of the images and other information.

The magazine as a whole, has a lot going on, due to a couple of images placed and a lot of big and bold text used across the cover. This works very well with the genre as rock tends to be "loud" and "crazy", therefore the quantity and quality is used greatly.

TASK 2: Uses and Gratifictations

Theory; is to understand mass communication, this places more focus on the consumer or audience. It assumes that the audiences are not passive but take a role in interpreting and integrating media into their own lives. The audiences are responsible for choosing media to meet their needs. This suggests that people use media to fulfill specific gratifications. This would then imply that the media compete against other information sources for viewers’ gratification.
